Letters for Lindsay

Dear friends, family, and anyone else who may care,

I write to you today with a heavy heart. Kidding, for some reason I’ve just always wanted to say that. I do write you today to tell you I will no longer be writing on the K-West blog. Many of you are holding your breath, hoping...praying I didn’t lose my job. Good news: I’m still employed. Bad news: I’m starting my own blog. It’s not really bad news, but it made the good news have a more dramatic ending.

Kanakuk's Dr. Doofenschnietzel and Syndrome Change Their Toon

Despite many attempts to take over K-West, the two sinister villains pictured above have had an extreme heart makeover, it appears. As you know, one of the best things about coming to K-West is time spent in God's word. From K-Life, to 10 x 10's, to devos, to memory verses--- you get fired up about the Bible! Well as crazy as it seems, both Dr. Doofenschnietzel and Syndrome decided to become Christians last week and begin reading their Bible. They even signed up to do the Victor's Crown Bible study. When asked how he became a Christian, Syndrome replied, "the Evil thing just wasn't working for me anymore. I started reading Deuteronomy, and said to myself, "I've been a bad boy. So I just signed up for Victor's Crown Bible study." Dr. Doofenschnietzel said, "It (Victor's Crown) has made a difference in my life. I no longer want to wreak havoc wherever I go, I've sent an apology letter to Ward Wiebe for being a menace, and my long-term goal is to be a counselor there someday.... I know I'll have to get a haircut and a new wardrobe, but, you know, one thing at a time!"
Today we stand up and applaud the villains as well as the kampers who have stepped forward to commit to reading the Bible everyday! Standing "O!"

Thank you to my first counselors

I realize that most of your reading this blog were non-existent in 1982. When you think of the 1980's you probably think of Atari, Madonna, leg warmers, pastel colors, Knight Rider and the A-Team. But for me, 1982 was life-changing. I was fortunate to be a Kanakuk kamper! It was my very first summer. My counselors were Randy from Texas Tech, and Steve from Kansas State. I've never forgotten them. I saw in these two guys an authentic love and friendship with Jesus. Their lives had direction, purpose beyond themselves, and freedom to be themselves! I was already a Christian, but I remember praying in my bunk one night, "God, if I didn't really ask you into my heart the first time, I really ask that you come into my life now. I want to be yours and live for you." My experience at Kamp that summer has defined who i am. That is, a man who seeks to live for Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit and God's grace. I am forever indebted to Christ, and indebted to my counselors, and all at Kanakuk who "let their light shine." Because of this indebtedness, it is my joy and passion to live in such a way that demonstrates my gratitude.
